Horizontal Datum

A Horizontal Datum is a reference grid used to define positions on the earth, by latitude and longitude or by grid coordinates like X & Y or Northing and Easting. Surveyors have most recently used the NAD83 datum, but GPS navigational systems typically use WGS84.
