Vertical Datum
A vertical datum is a system, or framework, in which elevations can be based with consistency and relative accuracy across
large geographical areas. The National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (or NGVD 29) was established to standardize a system
of elevations throughout the country. It was later modernized and called the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88).
